TTCI's Damage Prevention & Loading Services (DPLS) supports member efforts to define new methods of securing freight in a safe, damage-free, and economical manner. The DPLS team evaluates loading and securing methods for freight moving in closed railcars, trailers, containers, open top flatcars and multi-level railcars. DPLS saw a record year in 2017, having produced 20 new closed car loading methods and 60 open top loading methods for interchange service. In 2017, DPLS conducted 4 rail simulation tests using the Vibration Test Unit (VTU) , 17 field shipping tests, 24 impact tests, and 76 laboratory tests of load securement materials and methods. And in support of rail auto distribution quality initiatives, 63 origin and 102 destination quality reviews were performed throughout the North American system.
