In 2017, TTCI teamed with the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida in studies that will assist the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Office of Research, Demonstration, and Innovation in the agency’s standards development program. As part of the process, TTCI is performing rail focus area research for CUTR in support of FTA’s transit safety standards initiatives, with areas of interest including event data recorders, emergency lighting and signage, crashworthiness/crash energy management, track inspection and maintenance, and rail tunnels.
The project team is working with CUTR’s Transit Safety Standards Working Group selected to inform on the tasks associated with the Standards Development Program. The 13-member group represents a cross section of the U.S. public transportation industry. TTCI hosted the Working Group in Pueblo in June 2017. The partnership between TTCI and CUTR will result in expanded research, testing, and training capabilities to advance public safety across rail and bus transit modes.
